What more can be said about the ceiling? All one can really do is to appreciate the generosity of the benefactor, enjoy the beauty of the craftmanship, and thank our Lord for both.
There is one complaint I've heard from serveral sources. The star can not be seen from the pews. True enough, and the only thing that can be done is to take a photograph which I've posted here and throughout the website. I'm told there is still some lighting to be added to it so if it changes the apperance dramatically enough I'll shoot another photo and post it again.
The hanging lights (pendant lights) and the strip lights still have to be put up. The former has not been purchased yet for pricing reasons and the latter should be installed this week. The strip lights will be placed between the ceiling and the walls illuminating the walls several feet down. There will also be spot lights installed for the wall Crucifix, Mary & Joseph.
The labor on the altar floor has been completed. Now it needs to cure. It will be dry enough by this coming Monday to walk on, but the question is whether it will be cured enough to place the altar to its proper station. We have been told we can not place the throw rugs down for thirty days, which raises the question as to why you could place the altar there any sooner. I have not heard an answer so we'll wait and see .
If you look at the planks of the floor you'll see the lead plank of each step is slightly darker than the rest. This was done by request of the city to denote where a step was. I'm told they actually wanted it in a vibrant, eye-catching color like yellow or orange. Hopefully this will satisfy their needs.
The hand rails have been removed, and the notches where they stood filled. The reasons for this were position and stability. The old ones, originally donated and put in by the Knights, turned out to be in the way of the altar, and if you remember not strong enough to support the weight of Deacon Nick who fell on one and collapsed it to the floor. This one, replaced by Anthony Iadarola (of Chapel renovation fame), was much sturdier but still in the wrong place. The new ones will be of sturdy construction, and placed at the corner points where the flooring angles back to the wall.
Joe Hreso would like to start replacing the pews this coming Monday, but if the altar can not be placed back to the floor due to the curing, then he can not start. This is an open question which we'll find out about in the coming week.
Once the pews are back in place all of them will be cleaned along with the carpet.
