Week two was spent adding 2x6" support beams to the existing framework. In order to support the additional weight of the ceiling planks the additonal support beams were added at 24" intervals using joist hangers requiring 12 nails per hanger at each end of the beam. City code requires each nail to be driven in manually so nail guns were not used.
In the photo, the light colored wood is the additional support. The darker wood is the framework we've always had in place.
Once the beams are all installed a structural engineer must inspect, sign-off and the work is then given to an architect who will submit drawings to the city for review and inspection.
